Last Friday was a lovely spring day here in New England. I took the opportunity to visit my beautiful daughter Carrie who lives in Northampton, Massachusetts, which is about an hour’s drive from here. I like to get together with Carrie, of course, but I get the added pleasure of having a good Indian meal (which I was really craving!) and walking around Noho.
Northampton is a great little city. It is the home of Smith College as well as lots of great restaurants and interesting shopping. It is also the subject of Tracy Kidder’s book Home Town. On beautiful days like Friday, Northampton’s citizens are out in full force…street musicians and people just hanging out. It is the kind of town where you can easily get a conversation going with the guy standing next to you. It’s a town full of modern day hippie-types and just plain interesting humans…and their dogs.
I often envy my daughter getting to live there, but I guess I ought to be glad I don’t. With all the great restaurants, I’d be a damn sight poorer and quite a lot larger. But Carrie who is a vegetarian with purple hair (right now) is suited to Northampton life and I am just happy to get to visit now and then and get my inner hippie on.

Francesc
great series of pictures. love the colourful lanterns and the purple hair.
Good memories you bring to me from 20+ years ago. Recently I saw a favored jazz musician was playing at the Iron Horse in Noho. Your daughter is blessed for her days in such an interesting town.
