Rust Never Sleeps at Three Sisters Sanctuary…

The photography group I belong to meets tomorrow evening.  At our last meeting, we decided on the subject “Rust” as our assignment.  Personally, I think rust is a terrific photographic subject, but it’s not always so easy to find a good supply of rust.  Sooooo, in September,  I got in touch with my daughter, Carrie, and asked her if she wanted to take a little ride out to Goshen, Massachusetts, to Three Sisters Sanctuary because I knew that I could find rust there.

SPOILER ALERT!  If you are a member of the Massasoit Art Guild Photo Group, you’re going to be seeing these shots tomorrow night.  Just so you know.

This shot is not of rust, per se, but there is a rusty fence in the background.

I have to recommend Three Sisters Sanctuary as a cool place to wander around.  There is much more to it than a lot of rust.  It’s billed as a place “where nature and art are joined” and is the brain child of environmental artist Richard M. Richardson.  Here’s a link to the web-site:  Three Sisters Sanctuary.  If you find yourself near Goshen, Massachusetts, you should stop in.

Having to make hard choices, part 2…

You can see that I don't take many pictures of people.  But here's one I really like.  This picture of friends Sean and Ellen was taken last October on our trip to Italy.  We stayed in a beautiful villa along the Amalfi Coast.   And though it was a little cool for me, Sean braved the infinity pool, which is where he is standing in this photo.  I like the mood of this because it reminds me of how beautiful, calm and relaxing the villa was.  I also like that Sean has his hat on.

This photo was taken along the Blue Ridge Parkway in Virginia.  What a wonderful drive!  We were there in the winter so there wasn’t much traffic, which allowed us to stop when we saw something that I wanted to take a picture of.  I like this photo a lot and spent some time on it getting it aligned properly.

Here’s another one from our travels.  This photo was taken in 2010 on a trip we made to Scotland.  These boats are on the Isle of Mull.  I think they leave them there for photographers like me to ooh and aah over.  I love Scotland.

Sunflowers are probably my favorite flower and I love them in all their phases.  To me, this one looks like it is just waking up from a long nap.

And finally, here’s a photo I took at Three Sisters Sanctuary in Goshen, Massachusetts, on one of the field trips Carrie and I took.  This is a great place to wander around with a camera.  I highly recommend it if you are in the area.  In this photo, I love the juxtaposition of the wild vines and other natural growth against the relative fineness of the stained glass window.  The Unexpected…

Are these my ten “best” photos?  Probably not.  Well, maybe…  Photography is very personal and very subjective.  I suspect that to me, these are the best because they all invoke wonderful things and good times in my mind.  But maybe I will change my mind tomorrow when new things happen in my life.

By the way, we are still waiting for the snow to start in earnest.  We are supposed to get 8 plus inches.  Here’s hoping that they misread this storm and it will all blow out to sea.

Rust Never Sleeps…

“Better to burn out than to rust out,” according to Neil Young.  There was a time when I might have agreed but these days I’m not sure I have much of a choice.  Here I am dusty and rusty.  In any case, after Carrie and I visited to Three Sisters Sanctuary in Goshen, Massachusetts, I have to say that I believe that rust has its virtues.

This is a great place for photographers.  One of the things I liked the best was the vast array of neatly arranged rusty objects.   Here are a few.

They just don't make things the way they used to.

Is anyone else thinking "Dune" here?

In reality, maybe Shakespeare had it right when he wrote, “I were better to be eaten to death with a rust than to be scoured to nothing with perpetual motion.”

Scavenger Hunt at the Three Sisters Sanctuary…

I often get good ideas from my daughter Carrie.  This week I took advantage of one and we went together to the ThreeSisters Sanctuary in Goshen, Massachusetts.  I decided once I got there that I was going to find something for each of the prompts for the Scavenger Hunt at this special place.  So here they are…

So, what did the white tile say to the gold tile?  Meet me at the Corner!

The Three Sisters Sanctuary backs up to a nature preserve.  While you are there, you hear birds and frogs and see a beautiful green space.  Getting there in my Prius, I noticed that I was getting around 63 MPH.  Mother Nature Meets Technology!

We walked around the Sanctuary for quite a long time.  But because of my bad knee we took it One Step at a Time!

What’s Wrong with this Picture?!  If you just look at it here you might think plenty is wrong, but it actually fits into the surroundings pretty well.

There were a few things there that I could have used for the prompt  Standing Tall!  But I liked this one the best.  I would like to be the kind of person who can see a tree limb lying on the ground and have a vision of something like this.

I'll have more pics of this wonderful place later this week, meanwhile...
