Random 5 Friday...gobble, gobble...

1)  We were well prepared for Trick-or-Treat last night but only about a dozen kids came to our door.  It was a slow year.  We have a long driveway so I think that often our house is bypassed.  One year though, I thought I was prepared with a couple big bags of candy but ended up panicking and passing out granola bars to a few kids toward the end and turning out the lights early.  This year, I have lots of left-overs that, believe me, I don’t want.  Boo!  After some consideration, though, I think we are just in one of those in between years.  The older kids have finally decided that trick-or-treating is lame and the younger kids are just too young.

2)  I’m still smiling over the Red Sox win and hoping that will hold me over until Opening Day, which for the Red Sox is March 31, 2014.   Seems like a long way from now.

3)  I was sitting at my computer earlier today bemoaning the fact that it was a pretty nasty, dark, drizzly day out and it was going to be difficult for me to come up with something for my Flickr 365.  That sad fact called for another cup of coffee.  On my way down the stairs from my office a bit of movement in the front yard caught my eye.  The turkey family was on the move.  I got my camera and started shooting.
My 365 for today…done and dusted.

4)  As I was going back to my computer with my coffee and my SD card loaded with turkeys, I noticed the frantic flying of the chickadees going back and forth from the bird feeder.  At that moment I realized that I am much more like a turkey than a chickadee.   I don’t mean like a turkey in the pejorative sense.  Wild turkeys are admirable birds.  But I do kind of lumber around like a turkey at a deliberate pace checking out all the stuff around me.   I don’t do anything at chickadee pace.  More turkey than chickadee, that’s me.  What kind of bird would describe you?

5)  Okay, I will admit to some lameness here.  I can’t figure out how to email people from my blog and have their response included in the email.  You know what I mean.  When it says:  “On Tue, Oct 29, 2013 at 1:52 PM, barbara l. hale <commonplacebeautyphotography@gmail.com> wrote:” etc. etc.  What the heck?  How do you do it?  I love getting emails from y’all and I often want to answer someone who comments on my blog.  I’m not being a blog snob, believe me, it’s just one more thing I haven’t figured out yet.
Maybe I really am a turkey in the pejorative sense.  Gobble, gobble...

Didn't work for me. I think I use Google. Maybe I should go into the guts of my blog site and see if I flipped a wrong switch.

We don't get ANY trick or treaters.. too far from town & off the road.

About the comment / email thing..
As far as blogger goes, anyway, (I don't know about other types).. it's all about your settings.
I'll try to walk you through it.
In your blogger page - your name is at the top right corner. Click on it for a drop down menu.
Click "Blogger profile"
Next click the orange "Edit Profile"
There is a box next to "show my email address."
Once I checked this box, I began getting comments to my email, where I can respond to them all by email in return.
Not ALL of them, though - only the ones of other people who also have this checked. Otherwise, they come as "no-reply comments"
I'm not super techy - but I hope this helps!

Great shots of the Turkey's. Yeah I hear you on not needing the left-over candy . We live on a busy street near a school so you would think we would have had more kids. Of course several houses around use are vacant right now so that might have had something to do with the low turn out.
I know there is a way to change your settings for replying but can't recall what it is right now. Hopefully someone will help you out with that.

are you trying to respond to comments from your blog? do you have your comments delivered to your email inbox? go to settings-mobile and email-then there's a 'comment notification email' box - fill in your email there and you can respond directly to folks who have their email enabled in their profile.

however, if you're saying YOUR own comments are not able to be responded to via email - if folks use google+ profile instead of blogger profile, it disconnects their email from their profile and comments can no longer be responded to directly via email. (PITA!)

OMG! I don't even want to get into how I respond by e-mail, though I often do. I have my e-mail posted - do you? I have it in my profile and also on a separate page on my blog. I've just been wondering if I reply to a person who comments under their comment, do they get it via e-mail? I think not. You and i are like the blind leading the blind. I'll be a turkey, too.

i just read your post to bob and he said he has only seen one wild turkey, that was 60 years ago in PA.. i have never seen one and can't image what i would do if i saw them out my window. i am not like a bird, i am more like a lumbering bear, a big fat, slow moving at slow speed.

Just love your wild turkey images Barb -- looking forward to seeing some around here once the snow flies.

Turkeys have been all over our neighborhood this year. They really take their time crossing the street. We have no trick or treaters on our street - never have. For many years I would buy a big bag of Snickers even though I knew nobody would come. Didn't do it this year.

Love you random thoughts here... it seems most of the country is in drizzly, overcast days. And while most of the people seem to hate it, I feel renewed with it. Crazy I know. Your turkey pictures, fantastic... I captured two the other day, but they were a ways off... I'm thinking too far away.

Fantastic shots of the gobbler! I love the variations in the different feathers.

I know you've already figured out the comment thing. People ask me questions in their comments, but many of them don't have their email enabled and I can't reply directly.

I enjoyed your Random 5...we ended up going to our daughter's house Friday morn and I didn't get through the Random 5 participants...I might can work on that tonight.

Glad you got your email figured out...I wish all people had it till we could respond to their posts.

What kind of bird would I be...sometimes I think I am about like a penquin...I just waddle around. But I am actually not quite that bad...so Turkey might be a good fit for me, too. I am sure not elegant....never was that even in my younger days.
