The Most Beautiful Voyage in the World…

In Bergen, Greg and I boarded the Hurtigruten ferry the MS Trollfjord for what was billed as the “most beautiful voyage in the world.”  One of the first things they tell you on the Hurtigruten is that their boats are not cruise ships.  They are working ferries.  But while the Trollfjord might not have glitzy entertainment and endless food like most cruises, it was plenty comfortable and after we settled in and went up on deck, here’s what we were treated to.

And that was within the first 24 hours.  Here's a map of Norway that traces our route.  The boat does stop at those places either on the way up or on the way down.

A Happy Mother’s Day Scavenger Hunt…

Here are this week’s prompts:  Perspective, Golden, Bloom, Dark and Local.  And here are my efforts.

I decided to use this definition of PERSPECTIVE:  a state of existing in space before the eye.  We were down at our neighborhood beach on Friday and I asked our friend Bob to hold still while I took this picture.  Good guy that he is, he did what I asked.  In his sunglasses, I could see what existed in the space before Bob’s eyes.  I think that’s kind of cool.

This is a koi from a local restaurant Zorba’s where we go occasionally for lunch.  Now that the weather is nice, they open their pleasant outdoor area and you can sit next to this lovely koi pond.  I’m not a big fan of fish but I think these are very pretty.  He’s like an overgrown GOLD(EN) fish.

It was Ralph Waldo Emerson who said, “What is a weed?  A plant whose virtues have never been discovered.”  Most people consider the dandelion a weed, but I like its cheery yellow demeanor and love it when they turn to seed.  The dandelion is a BLOOM that I enjoy.

Here is one of the newest residents of our neighborhood.  His name is Maverick and he may be DARK but that doesn’t mean he isn’t sweet and friendly.  Welcome, Maverick!

We are so lucky that this scene is within a five minute walk from our front door.  This is LOCAL for us.

SCAVENGER HUNT SUNDAY!

The things I saw…

It was a beautiful day here in Massachusetts yesterday…not too hot or humid.  Greg had to go over to a town a few towns away from ours to run an errand so I went with him.  Here are some of the things I saw along the way:

The sky was full of cirrus clouds.  At one point I noticed that there was a cloud that was kind of red in the middle of a bunch of regular white clouds so I took a picture of it.  What causes this, I have no idea but it’s kind of cool, I think.  It was red for a while.  Then it turned blue.  Then it just went back to being an ordinary cloud.  Do you see it there?  It's three lines down.  I guess it just wanted to assert itself for a little while.

The traffic was horrendous.  We thought we would save time if we got on the highway but this is what we encountered once it was too late to get off.  It turns out there was a rather serious accident up ahead on the other side of the Turnpike.  I guess it was that age-old gawk factor that had us backed up.  I hope everyone involved in the accident is okay.

For a while, we were behind a truck from Madbury, New Hampshire.  I think that is a funny name for a town – Madbury.  I looked on line but couldn’t find an explanation for the name.  It made me wonder if, when they named the town, they also considered the names Happybury and Sanebury and those names were voted down by the folks at their town meeting because they wanted the town to have a certain kind of reputation.  Probably not, but it’s kind of fun to think about.  Anyhow, I highlighted in green the fact that this business’s phone number is 593-EGGS and below the letters (EGGS) they also put the numbers (3447.)  I appreciate that.  If I ever had to call Siegel Egg Co., I would be very glad that they put the numbers there and I wouldn’t have to translate EGGS into numbers.  One  of my bugaboos.

On our way home, we went by the Pigmobile for Carl’s Oxford Diner.  I ate at Carl’s Oxford Diner once a few years ago.  They make one heck of a breakfast in there but, believe me, the Pigmobile is an apt symbol for the place.  One of the YELP reviews I read of this place states:  “if you order keilbasa and eggs you will get an ENTIRE Keilbasa!”  Well, that’s true.  And if you order bacon, you get practically a whole pig.   So if you are hungry, I would recommend Carl’s Oxford Diner but be prepared to wait in line to get in.  Apparently, there are a lot of hungry people in these parts.  And, oh yeah, the bus doesn't pick people up and take them to Carl's Oxford Diner.  It's just there for show.

Hunting…

I found the prompts for this week (paint, green, eyelashes, shapes and clouds) particularly challenging, but I managed to come up with something for every one.

PAINT:  My medium has always been fabric and thread.  In my case, these are paint.

GREEN:  Until yesterday we have had very little rain this summer so it is a wonder that I found this very green field to photograph.

EYELASHES:  My son Evan was kind enough to let me take a few pics of his eyes to use for the eyelashes prompt.

SHAPES:  Since I was a kid, I’ve liked working jigsaw puzzles.  While I had cats, I couldn’t manage to keep them from stealing and hiding pieces so I gave it up for a while.  Remind me some day to tell you about the LEGO castle my son and I built together that my cat Asta took apart piece by piece.  Asta was also famous for carrying around Barbie doll heads and dropping them where ever she thought they would create the most drama.  Now that I don’t have any cats, I can work puzzles in peace and if there were still Barbies around here, they would be safe.  I’d rather have cats actually.

CLOUDS:  We had some pretty gorgeous and dramatic clouds drifting in and out of New England this week.
