Getting up early…

I don’t get up early in the morning very often anymore for the simple reason that I don’t have to.  And since we’ve started letting our pug Olive sleep with us, I could sleep ‘til the cows come home because this pug is not an early riser.  As a matter of fact, sometimes she looks at me as if to say, “Really?  I can’t believe it.  You’re getting up now??”  But she manages to shake herself awake enough to get up and go when I’m ready.  And being a dog, once up she forgets that she wanted to sleep in.  After all, the next nap is just around the corner for her.

The thing is, though, when I do get up early, I almost always think I should make a habit of it.  The light in the early morning is just so wonderful and the photographer in me thinks I ought to take advantage of that.  Unfortunately, the old, cranky person in me has her way most of the time.

Last week, I had to get up early two days in a row and on one of those mornings, I managed to think to take my camera along when I took Olive out for her morning walk.  Here you go…

This is the first little whitehead I've seen this year and it managed to put itself in one of my planters.

The light through the ash tree leaves makes them look like stained glass.

The light rays on that first one are beautiful. I've been planning on getting up early for the past few weeks to try and get a sunrise on a lake nearby. Notice you haven't seen me with any photos of a sunrise on a lake.

the morning light paints with Gods paint brush in a way that it doesn't any other time of the day, sunset paints but it is totally different than the rising sun. sunrise is my favorite time of the day and for 27 years i have never missed one. we are early to bed and early to rise, so i don't see sunsets at all. we are what we are, some sleep some get up. that first photo is so beautiful, the beams are alive in it

Hola, Barbara:

Morning light has such a way with things, it's hard to stay mad at it for disturbing your slumber. Beautiful shots - fabulous light.

Mornings are magic....I know...most annoying saying ever, right? But it's seriously my optimal time of day. I get this from my mother. Seems it's a lovely time to get some great photos as well...gorgeous shots as usual, Barb.

I'm with you in that I don't get up early cause I don't have, too, well, not at the right 'early.' But when I do get up early, I like it. I was always an early riser as a kid...never liked to sleep in.

Now, our cats...I would give anything if they were like your pug...but they are not. They are getting me up way before daylight. Or waking me up...they get lonesome...one wants to be petted....the other either wants under the cover or wants me to get up and feed her. I should do a blog post about this...
