Willy-Nilly Friday Five…

1.  I actually got something done this week and here it is:

It was my first real attempt at Aran Crochet.  I enjoyed doing it and it turned out well.  I can see more of this in my future.

2.  I went out to visit my daughter Carrie who lives in Northampton, Massachusetts yesterday.  She was proudly carrying her “new to her” orange purse...a gift from her dad.  It is a pretty sweet bag, I must admit.

3.  After Carrie and I had lunch, we did a little antique browsing.  I do love poking around in antique shops even though I don’t really need or want anything much.  But I did find something yesterday that called out to me.  And it’s this:

I’m planning to repurpose this old ashtray as a fondue fork holder for our annual Christmas Eve fondue do.  I think that it will give it a much nicer second life.  I am rather enamored of the shape and color of the piece.

4.  After we left the shop, we saw this little fellow tied up waiting for his alpha.  Dogs tied to poles always look so lonely to me.  It’s like he’s saying to everyone who passes by, “Are you my mother?”

5.  Got up this morning to our first “snowfall.”  I am putting that in quotes because it didn’t amount to anything and by the time I was taking the dog out around 8 am, it was bright and sunny and sounded like it was raining out because everything was melting at a precipitous rate.  Other parts of the country have gotten hit a lot harder than we have.  But it’s early days yet.

Linking up to Tanya's Willy-Nilly Friday Five!

I love the throw. Very nice work. The orange purse is too cool. We had flurries here but it dropped to 16° this am. Brrr!

That blue scarf (blanket?) is so beautiful. It looks so soft and comfy. Great job! I remember my mother having an ashtray like that on our coffee table.

LOVE the handmade blanket, or is it a scarf?? The color and pattern are beautiful!! It snowed here last night, I saw it as I was heading up to bed, but no accumulation. I was bummed!!

I know what you mean about those dogs, you described that look well!!

"willy-nilly" - now that is a term I can get behind. Be careful what you wish for in the snow department - my husband keeps telling me this is supposed to be a very bad winter. (despite getting butterflies of excitement with the first flurries this week - I am NOT ready for winter -- which at 20 degrees this evening, we apparently have arrived at).

Gorgeous crochet - love that color; and speaking of color - that orange purse is to die for.

Your afghan is gorgeous! I am back "into" crochet and will be trying that stitch at some point I am sure. It's lovely. Love the color too. That vintage orange purse is awesome! And I love the ashtray as well. Beautiful photo of the leaf in snow. Glad you didn't get "hit" too hard.

#1 is so pretty, love that color.
Oh that doggie did look lonely there.
Your daughter looks pleased as punch with that cute orange purse.
Love the color and shape of the ashtray and I do think your idea is a much better use for it.
That's not a "snowfall" but I sure love your shot of the leaf. We got about 2 inches but some of it has melted already. Next week it should all be gone.

that is a beautiful crochet piece and the photo is to, i can count the stitches.. beautiful smile with the purse and my mother had an ash tray in these colors. when i see a dog tied to a pole i think what is wrong with the owner that they leave them there. that dog could be stolen in a flash. i would never leave my dog unattended anywhere but my fenced back yard

I LOVE that aqua blanket (?). Gorgeous colour and pattern. Great idea for repurposing the vintage ashtray. It has the slots built right in for the forks. We had another dusting of snow yesterday that mostly melted. It can keep on doing that as far as I'm concerned. :)

That is a gorgeous blanket!! It looks so soft, and such a pretty and intricate design.

I like the orange purse, but it's just not big enough for what I "need" to carry around with me. :-)

The pretty dog does look lonely. I hope his person showed up soon.

And I forgot to say that I love your idea for re-purposing the ashtray. A much healthier use for it!
