Forcing Spring…

We have a huge forsythia hedge that fronts the street in our yard.  It grows where it wants and has to be trimmed back with a lot of aggression from time to time.  But I like the fact that it is a wild looking plant.  I am not one to want to tame bushes into topiaries and bonsai.
Give me the untamed look any day!

I also like walking past it especially this time of year.  To me it is like a high rent condo for birds.  The birdsong coming from that wild tangle of branches warms my heart even on cold spring mornings.

The other thing about this hedge that I really like is that I can cut the branches and bring them into the house.  When I bring them in, they look rather bare and lifeless, but within a week, I have the most beautiful bouquet of yellow flowers and no one would even know that I took my scissors and had at that riotous bush that hides our house and, in the process, forced spring.

Someone told me the other day that I could break off a piece of a forsythia & put it in water & let it sprout roots then replant it... the next one I see, that's what I'm going to do! Thank you for that! =)
Beautiful shots, too!

Thanks for your comments! Once you get a forsythia going, it will keep going and going. I am glad this hedge isn't close to our house so we can let it do its thing. The Buddha was a mother's day gift from my kids years ago. He spends the winter in the sunroom and the summer outdoors. I love him.
